As a good spectrometer configuration is essencial for the best performance in your application, you can find in the next section relevant information for the right selection of your setup:
-
The Flex spectrometer can be configured with a Sony 2048-pixel detector in the STD version or with a Toshiba 3648-pixel sensor in the RES+ version. If you need higher sensitivity for applications such as fluorescence measurements, choose the FLEX STD version. For applications where improved resolution is required or where sensitivity is not an issue—such as absorbance—the FLEX RES+ version may be a better option. If you are looking for an optimized configuration, please visit the Pre-Configured Solutions section to find the best Flex spectrometer for each application.
-
As standard configurations Flex spectrometer has 3 possible wavelength ranges. This parameter is mainly affected by the chosen grating. The efficiency curves of the used gratings can be found in the following links:
The spectrometer can be configured with different wavelength ranges. If you need a different wavelength range in your Flex Spectrometer please check the Gratings section in our website.

For any given configuration, the slit plays a vital role in defining both optical resolution and sensitivity. A narrower slit improves optical resolution while reducing sensitivity—and vice versa. Additionally, a narrower slit generally reduces stray light.
We recommend using 10 or 25 μm slits for applications such as absorbance and reflectance. For fluorescence, where high sensitivity is required and optical resolution is less critical, a 200 μm slit is the best option.
You also have the option to purchase a slit kit to have all alternatives available in one spectrometer. Don't forget to order it with your spectrometer!
-
By adding the enhanced sensitivity option to your spectrometer, you are including a fixed cylindrical lens in front of the detector to focus the entire height of the monochromatic light onto the smaller detector pixels.
Incorporating a collecting lens in the spectrometer detector is extremely beneficial for low-light-level applications that require high sensitivity, such as fluorescence.
-
The "internal shutter" is a software-controlled component that mechanically blocks all light entering the spectrometer. This component is especially useful in measurements such as absorbance and reflectance, where a dark measurement step is necessary. With the new Lightscan 2 software, spectrometers equipped with an internal shutter perform the dark measurement automatically alongside the reference measurement, making the process easier for the user.
-
Stray light is defined as any unwanted radiation at undesired wavelengths that reaches the detector and produces a signal. The Flex spectrometer features an optimized optical and mechanical design that minimizes stray light. By selecting this option, your spectrometer will be equipped with superior optics, including a Blazed Holographic Diffraction Grating, which is essential for reducing stray light.
-
Different applications may require varying levels of sensitivity, optical resolution, and more. By adding a slit kit, you'll be able to manually change the slit on your spectrometer, allowing one instrument to be used for multiple applications.
