Slits

The optical resolution and sensitivity are two important parameters when performing spectroscopic measurements that can be improved by changing an optical element at the entrance of the spectrometer. This optical element, which is called slit, acts as the entrance aperture and regulates the width of the light beam entering the spectrometer optical bench.

For Sarspec spectrometers the available slit widths are 10, 25, 50, 100 and 200 µm. Each slit has a rectangular aperture with 3 mm high and is fixed into the SMA 905 bulkhead. All our new series of spectrometers (FLEX, FLEX+, SENSE, and X-RES) have user-interchangeable slits, which means the spectrometer can be easily optimized for parameters such as optical resolution and sensitivity. without the need for calibration

In order to make use of the user-interchangeable slits feature in all of our spectrometers, the slit kit is available. The simplest slit kit (Slit-Kit-3) features a set with three slits, of 10, 25, and 200 µm while the complete slit kit (Slit-Kit-5) features a set with five slits, of 10, 25, 50, 100, and 200 µm. Both Slit-Kit-3 and Slit-Kit-5 include the tools required to easily change the slit in the spectrometer.
